Primary activities:

  • The primary purpose of the DB2 Database Administrator is to service the complete DB2 database. This support includes proactive and reactive management on the complete database infrastructure based on DB2 technologies (DB2 9.7, 10.5 and 11.1).
  • This position is part of a new dynamic Database Administration team with highly talented individuals. The team has well rounded skills on application, infrastructure and database architectures.
  • Database administration position involving daily Monitoring, guaranteeing a 100% Backup (and Restore), Incident- and Problem management, Capacity Management, Change Management, Security Management including authorization, Configuration Management, and troubleshooting of DB2 databases in a big environment.
  • Responsible for a 100% backup and a 99,5% plus uptime. For backup we use TSM for DB2.
  • Responsible for all activities related to the administration of DB2 LUW databases.
  • Suggest and implement continuous improvements and automation proposals on both the server, as on procedures.
  • Responsible for implementing database designs based on best practices and provide ongoing operational support, spokesman to DB Architect.
  • Manage user accounts for workload / database support.
  • Ensures optimal health and performance of the DB2 infrastructure.
  • First contact to clients for all kinds of requests.
  • Responsible for recommending database solutions to recognized problems and for design and implementation of new DB2 servers and/or databases.
  • Configures database access and allocates database resources for optimum configuration and performance.
  • Responsible for Installation and Configuration of DB2 server and databases.
  • Responsible for setting end keeping up effective monitoring for alerts and capacity analysis.
  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating documentation necessary to support the database operations by the DBA team.
  • Work with customers to define, document, implement, administer and maintain database solutions based on DB2 technology, including system specification, systems architecture and operational design.
  • Responsible for enforcing Enterprise security policies and procedures on databases.
  • Coordination with Application Managers to assure the continuity of the database applications as regards upgrades, versions, patches, new releases (DB2 Prod – 20 normal and 10 HA databases OLTP and 40 DWH. DB2 OTA – 80 normal and 10 HA OLTP and 85 DWH).
  • Provide 24 x 7 on call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members.
  • Implementing and supporting changes, also outside office-hours, also as part of a scheduled rotation with the other team members (implementing planned changes in weekends).
  • Document and obtain approval for all changes in the DB2 environment.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for applications and systems and advanced technical support for database related project activities.
  • Provide technical advice on industry best practices.
  • Provide mentoring to fellow administrators.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong experience with DB2 database administration on Linux and Windows.
  • Knowledge of AIX and KSH scripting is must to have.
  • Deep understanding of DB2 database internals, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of 5+ years in supporting DB2-server.
  • Very good knowledge on DB2-server, concerning database, CPU and memory use, high availability solutions, Backup & recovery.
  • Advanced knowledge of DB2 tooling and scripting.
  • Flexible teamplayer.
  • Proactive attitude.
  • ITIL knowledge.
  • Good communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • Great communicator within the team and customers such as Application mngt.
  • Quick learning and adaptive.
  • Strong analytical skills (problem solver-attitude).
